You can plan your advocacy issue

Understanding what is important to you as a person is part of finding your advocacy voice.

Advocacy issues can be community based and do not have to be on a large (state or national) level. For example – clean water.

Contacting policy makers is an important part of being a director – tips include:

Always tell the truth
Know who is a policy maker on your side
Make yourself known as an expert information source
Be specific when meeting with officials – tell them what you want
Follow up – send thank you notes after calls and meetings. If they take action the way you asked them too – make sure to thank them.
